Poojya Swami Ramanand Teerth , a great saint and spiritual leader of Hyderabad Mukti Sangram started educational activity in Marathwada region in the year 1950 with the opening of a college named People’s College, Nanded. Poojya Swami Ramanand Teerth , a great saint and spiritual leader of Hyderabad Mukti Sangram started educational activity in Marathwada region in the year 1950 with the opening of a college named People’s College, Nanded. Further with the increase in number of students, the Science faculty was separated as Science College, Nanded in  the year 1963. Physics Department is among the first few departments set up at the beginning of the College. Under the leadership of Shri. V. Vithalachar the deprtment developed in a big way. Over the years, the technological development attracted the students towards this college and the number of students & Faculty members have increased.

            Now the department offers the courses for U.G. & P.G., also research facility is provided to the students.

The Faculty:-

            Dr. K. Ram Mohan Rao, renowned Physicist and Shri. V. D. Choudhari joined the faculty to assist Shri Vitthalachar. They contributed to the growth of the department. Later Shri. K. R. Patil , Dr. V. V. Joshi and Dr. A. L. Choudhari joined the department as a faculty. Shri. K. R. Patil later joined as Head to the Department pf Physics at JES College, Jalna. Dr. A. L. Choudhari joined Netaji Subhashchandra Bose College, Nanded as Head and then School of Physical Sciences, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded as a Reader. In 1963, Dr. V. V. Joshi became the Head of the department. He has set up the first research laboratory in the department to study the crystal growth and sorption charecterstics of the materials. Later Dr. M. J. Nimkar & Dr. O. G. Somani headed the department. Shri. N. P. Pawar is presently the head of the department.

Infrastructure:-

            The department has seven well furnished laboratories equipped with  different instrument such as Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO), audio frequency generators, radio frequency generators, microwave benches, optical benches, microprocessors, single pan balance (mechanical & electrical both), Sorption unit
Geigen Muller counters, Hall effect set up , Ultrasonic generator etc. Few of these instruments are used for research work.
The teaching & Non-teaching staff of the college is contributed the funds for the constructions of Electronics laboratory.
